Bio
Sharath Girimaji received his Bachelor’s degree (1983) from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (1983) and PhD from Cornell University (1990) – both in Mechanical Engineering. From 1990 – 1999 he worked at NASA (Langley) as a research scientist on hypersonic flight projects. In 1999, he joined the Aerospace Engineering Department at Texas A&M University. He became the inaugural Head of the Ocean Engineering Department at TAMU in 2015 and holds the Wofford Chair in Offshore Technology. His areas of research interest are complex fluid flows including turbulence, autonomous/remotely operated vehicles and air-sea interactions. He has authored over 120 archival journal publications and over 230 conference papers and abstracts. He has graduated 21 PhD and 17 MS students to date. He is a fellow of American Physical Society (APS) and Society of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineers (SNAME).
