Mark Hatfield is vice president of Chevron North America Exploration and Production Company’s Gulf of Mexico Business Unit which is headquartered in Covington, Louisiana and maintains a significant presence in Houston, Texas. He has held this position since November 2016 and is responsible for Chevron’s deepwater exploration and production activities in the Gulf.
Prior to that, Mark was general manager of Strategy and Planning for Chevron’s Upstream business in San Ramon, California. There, he developed the division’s strategy, business planning, and reporting processes. His duties included portfolio and competitor analysis, capital allocation, and driving alignment across the Upstream business.
Hatfield served from 2011 to 2013 as general manager of Strategy and Planning for Chevron North America Exploration and Production in Houston, Texas. In that role, he oversaw Chevron’s annual planning process, including business segment portfolio analysis, competitor analysis and oil price forecasting.
During his 36-year career with Chevron, Hatfield has held numerous technical and management positions of increasing responsibility, including roles on both the Texaco and Unocal integration teams. He has also worked on Chevron’s Reserve Advisory Committee.
Currently, Mark holds appointments with a number of Chevron’s industry and community partners including the Center for Offshore Safety, the Business Council of New Orleans, the Federal Reserve Energy Advisory Council, Greater New Orleans Inc., the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil & Gas Association, the New Orleans Recreation Development Foundation, and the National Ocean Industries Association. He is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Petroleum Institute.
Mark joined Chevron in 1982 as a production engineer in New Orleans after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. In 1992, he earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of New Orleans.
