Description

As oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico mature, many of the offshore assets are approaching end of service life. With current climate in the oil industry, keeping a host platform in a deep water field in service for as long as possible makes commercial sense. The life extension project of an offshore asset focuses on extending the service life of components that are not technically or financially feasible to be replaced. These components are the Topside Structure, Hull, mooring lines, production and/or export risers. Murphy EP are presently working on extending the service life of 2 of its host platforms – Medusa & Front Runner SPAR. Life extension projects, like any projects involve multiple stakeholders and face numerous challenges starting from project initiation, definition, execution, monitoring to completion.
