Mr. Martin Cheong is the Country General Manager of SBM Offshore Guyana, the first Guyanese to hold this post since the company commenced operations in Guyana in 2016. Mr. Cheong has a wealth of experience and qualifications in the field of business. His academic and professional journey over the years that preceded the oil and gas sector in Guyana proved pivotal to his journey to SBM Offshore Guyana.
He is the holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy from the University of Guyana and an Executive Master’s Degree in Business Administration (EMBA) at the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business.
Over the course of 11 years, he honed his skills at Scotiabank, moving up the ranks within the Compliance, Operations and Business Support departments, culminating in his final post being Manager of Finance.
Armed with his EMBA and exceptional leadership skills, Mr. Cheong later transitioned to the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT), where he held key positions in the Business Support, Human Resource and Finance departments.
In 2020, Mr. Cheong’s notable performance during the recruitment process for another role at SBM Offshore Guyana led to him being identified and subsequently appointed as the Country General Manager.
