Bio
S. Murray Meadow, PE, is a seasoned civil engineer in the Office of Structural and Technical Support, for the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Regional Office, U.S. Department of the Interior, in New Orleans, La. In this capacity, Mr. Meadow focuses on helping to ensure the safety of offshore oil and gas operations with duties including the review of: drive pipe repairs, jack up fit reviews, minor modifications, moorings, platform rig moves, PVPs and CVAs, site clearances, and platform decommissioning. He has been in this role with BSEE since December of 2023; and has twenty years of professional experience.
Prior to joining BSEE, Mr. Meadow honed his skills in diverse areas of civil engineering. For three and a half years, he served as a civil engineer for Jefferson County Roads and Transportation in Alabama, focusing on construction and bridge management. There, he played a dual role: managing construction projects (including earthwork density testing, concrete testing, concrete strength testing and calculating asphalt rate); and overseeing bridge inspections for nearly 300 structures. Prior to that, Mr. Meadow spent a significant portion of his career working for the State of Alabama. His responsibilities included: evaluating the condition of steel, concrete, and timber structures throughout the state; conducting visual bridge inspections; performing civil site design; and carrying out construction inspections for bridge and roadway projects throughout Alabama. He was with the State for twelve years.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Meadow also gained valuable experience in bridge design by working for Contech Construction Products. Here, he designed vehicular steel stringer bridges as well as vehicular steel truss bridges. Mr. Meadow has been a professional civil engineer and a certified bridge inspector since 2012. He also served in the US military, first with the US Marine Corps Reserve from 2000-2011; and then with the Alabama Air National Guard from 2011-2023. Mr. Meadow earned BS and MS degrees in civil engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2003 and 2008, respectively.
